Speaking after the ceremony marking the anniversary of the Greek War of Independence, Dendias stated that the Hellenic Armed Forces are being restructured with advanced systems and a new strategic doctrine.

“Our Armed Forces are evolving with new systems, a new philosophy, the integration of drone and counter-drone technologies, new missile systems, and updated force structures,” Dendias said. “We are safeguarding what is most valuable to Greek society—its security—not only within Greece but also through our presence in the Republic of Cyprus, protecting Hellenism as a whole.”

Cyprus Ties and Regional Security Emphasis
Dendias also highlighted the visit of Vasilis Palmas, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus, who attended the celebrations in Athens.

“Today is a great day for Christianity and for Hellenism, marking our national rebirth,” Dendias noted, referring to the dual religious and national significance of March 25.

Palmas echoed the sentiment, describing the occasion as “the highest day of national pride for Hellenism.” He emphasized the historical importance of the day, linking it to broader European transformations and global movements for freedom.

Expressing gratitude for Greece’s support, Palmas pointed to ongoing cooperation amid regional tensions in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

“We are thankful for Greece’s support—both in the air and at sea—in safeguarding the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus during a challenging period,” Palmas said. He added that Cyprus and Greece together have the capacity to contribute to peace and humanitarian efforts in the region.

Strategic Messaging on Defense and Stability
The statements reflect Athens’ continued focus on defense modernization and regional security cooperation, particularly in light of evolving geopolitical dynamics in the Eastern Mediterranean.
