Yannis Garanis issues a message on 8 March International Women's Day

Mayor Yannis Garanis stated the following in his message about the struggles of women against inequality at work, society, and politics and on March 8, International Women's Day, which is the symbol of these struggles:
"March 8 is the day to commemorate the struggle of the global women's movement to win and secure their rights. It is a day that we symbolically remember the struggles for equality, justice, and dignity. It is the struggle that started with the uprising of textile workers in New York on March 8, 1857, demanding better working conditions. Centuries have passed since that historic uprising, which became the cornerstone for the global women's movement to claim their rights.Today, women continue to fight resolutely and consciously for the elimination of inequalities at work, in society and in politics. It is the "other half of the sky" that needs to be supported. We must act with women to radically change the male-dominated society, and we owe it to them to establish women's position with justice and equality."
