Mayor of Komotini Garanis shows support to Thrace IBD Patients Association

Yannis Garanis, Mayor of Komotini, received representatives of the Thrace Idiopathic Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Patients Association (Σ.Α.Ι.Φ.Ν.Ε.Θ.) at his office on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The meeting took place within the framework of World IBD Day, observed annually on May 19.
The association was represented by Vice President Katerina Paschalidou and Treasurer Tusan Mümin, who briefed Mayor Garanis on their activities and the needs of IBD patients in the region. The discussion highlighted the importance of raising public awareness about chronic, invisible, and autoimmune diseases such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease.
Key points discussed included:
- Increasing societal awareness about the impact of IBD on patients’ daily lives,
- Improving access to medical services and supportive infrastructure,
- Addressing the issue of “invisible disabilities” and combating discrimination,
- Strengthening cooperation between local government and the association to implement informative campaigns and interventions.
Mayor Garanis affirmed Komotini Municipality’s full support for the association’s work and pledged to further develop collaboration in health and social integration initiatives.
The municipality emphasized its commitment to promoting social sensitivity, solidarity, and inclusiveness, ensuring that all citizens can live with dignity and equal rights.
