Garanis wants the municipality to hand over unused properties
The Mayor of Komotini, Yannis Garanis, requested that some real estates in the city be given to the municipality. Garanis requested that the Asteria cinema, Ksenia hotel and Kozluköy park in Komotini be given to the municipality. Mayor Garanis stated that he had forwarded the request to the Public Properties Company. "We see that these properties have been destroyed over the years," said Mayor Garanis, adding that for years the Asteria cinema was locked, the Xenia hotel was destroyed, the Kozluköy park was abandoned and the Fener coastline was not used.
Garanis said that these properties, which are under the control of the Public Properties Company, are not being utilised and are almost abandoned to their fate. Speaking to a local TV channel, Mayor Garanis called for the transfer of these properties to the Municipality of Komotini for utilisation. Garanis said, "We are trying to convince the company holding these properties to look at the properties in the Thrace region from a different perspective. We wonder what the Public Properties Company is waiting for? Does it expect that the public properties will be completely cancelled and then overnight these properties will be transferred to private individuals?"
