Institutional network to be established for carbon footprint monitoring in Komotini

A significant initiative is underway in the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region of Greece to promote environmental protection and sustainable agriculture. On Friday, July 4, a special event titled "Green Transition and Carbon-Based Agriculture" will be held in Komotini.

The event is being organized through a collaboration between the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Authority, the Inter-Balkan Environmental Center (i-BEC), and the Alexandria Innovation Zone S.A. The central goal is to establish a "Carbon Footprint Office" that will monitor and help reduce the environmental impact of agricultural activities in the region.

WHAT IS A CARBON FOOTPRINT?
A carbon footprint measures the amount of greenhouse gases emitted directly or indirectly by an individual, organization, or activity. The event will focus on reducing the environmental impact of agricultural practices.

OBJECTIVES OF THE EVENT:
To introduce the project’s goals,

To establish a network of institutions involving farmers, scientists, businesses, local governments, and civil society,

To strengthen the role of regional authorities and local stakeholders in environmental protection and sustainability efforts.

This event marks the first official cooperation meeting between the public sector, private sector, academia, and civil society in the region on this issue.
