Deputy Mayor dismissed in Municipality of Komotini
Komotini Mayor Yannis Garanis has dismissed Deputy Mayor Kleopatra Stogiannidou from her position. The decision was officially published on the public decision portal “Diavgeia.”
Stogiannidou, who was responsible for "Social Solidarity, Social Equality Policies, and Combating Discrimination and Gender-Based Violence," has been relieved of her duties. Mayor Garanis annulled the relevant provision of the appointment decision dated January 2, 2024.
Until a new appointment is made, the responsibilities and duties formerly held by Stogiannidou will remain under the direct supervision of Mayor Garanis.
The dismissal follows a recent municipal council meeting, during which Stogiannidou openly opposed the administration’s pricing policy for the Komotini Municipal Water and Sewerage Company (DEYAK). Mayor Garanis stated that Stogiannidou failed to express any opinion on the issue of social tariffs, despite her role as deputy mayor in charge of social affairs, and cited this lack of engagement as the reason for her removal.
