Arriana Municipality has sold a 5,555.30-square-metre plot of municipal land to the Agricultural Cooperative of Tobacco Producers and Various Agricultural Products of Thrace to facilitate the construction of a weighbridge serving farmers and livestock breeders in the area.

The sale agreement was signed by Arriana Mayor Huseyin Erdem, representing the municipality, and cooperative chairman Amet Sinan.

According to the municipality, the project aims to address a long-standing demand from local agricultural producers, who have lacked access to a nearby weighbridge to meet their professional needs.

LAND PURCHASED FOR AGRICULTURAL INFRASTRUCTURE

The property is located at a site known as “Alonia tou Choriou Dokou” (the village fields of Doko), within the land boundaries of the settlement of Doko, below the village's indoor municipal sports hall.

The municipality said the transaction was completed in accordance with applicable legislation and all required legal procedures governing the management and use of municipal property.

It also highlighted that the land was sold to an agricultural cooperative representing local producers rather than to a private individual, describing the decision as one with a clear development and social focus.

ACCESSIBLE LOCATION TO FACILITATE CONSTRUCTION

The selected site offers several advantages for the planned facility, including a central and accessible location and proximity to electricity and water supplies, which are expected to facilitate its construction and operation.

Once completed, the weighbridge is expected to make daily operations easier for farmers and livestock breeders by providing essential infrastructure for their professional activities.

In its announcement, Arriana Municipality said it supports initiatives addressing the practical needs of agricultural producers and improving working conditions in the primary sector, which it described as important to the local economy and social cohesion.

The signing of the sale agreement marks a significant step towards delivering a facility that has been sought by the local community for many years and is expected to benefit producers in Doko and neighbouring settlements.
