Works accelerate on Kalkanca crossing to improve road safety

The Regional Authority of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is stepping up work to improve the Irish-style crossing at Kalkanca (Vozvozi), where accidents and fatalities have been reported in previous years.

The project aims to improve transport safety and reduce the risk of future accidents, with the regional administration seeking to complete the works and reopen the crossing sooner than initially planned.

The initiative is being carried out under the leadership of Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis, as the authority prioritises infrastructure improvements intended to protect residents and road users.

REGIONAL OFFICIALS INSPECT WORKS
Regional Deputy Governor Rıdvan Molla İsa and Regional Governor’s Adviser Ahmet Osman Pehlivan visited the Kalkanca area on 22 October to inspect progress on the crossing improvement project.

The regional administration said the works were being accelerated to address a long-standing local infrastructure concern and improve safety for people travelling through the area.

The project forms part of broader efforts by the Regional Authority of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace to resolve persistent transport issues and deliver infrastructure improvements more efficiently.

An updated completion date and further technical details were not provided in the source report.
