Western Thrace students explore education and culture in Ankara trip
Students from the İskeçe Minority Secondary School and High School took part in a three-day cultural and educational visit to Ankara between April 15–17, as part of a broader initiative aimed at supporting education and student development.
The program was jointly organized by the School Board and Parent-Teacher Association of the institution under the “Support for Education and Our Students Project.”
A Journey Through Türkiye’s Educational and Historical Landmarks
The delegation of approximately 100 students and accompanying staff was led by Ozan Ahmetoğlu.
The visit began at Anıtkabir, where students received guided information about its historical and symbolic significance.
The program continued with visits to the historic buildings of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye in the Ulus district, offering students insight into Türkiye’s political history.
Students also visited the Millet Library, one of the largest libraries in the world located within the Presidential Complex, where they learned about its operations and academic resources.
University and Institutional Engagement
On the second day, the group toured Gazi University main campus, where students were introduced to higher education opportunities in Türkiye and engaged directly with university representatives.
The delegation also visited the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, YTB (Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities), where they were welcomed by President Abdülhadi Turus. Students received detailed presentations on Türkiye Scholarships and international education programs.
In addition, the group visited TİKA, where they were briefed on international development projects. A meeting was also held with TİKA President Abdullah Eren, who himself originates from Western Thrace.
Educational and Cultural Objectives
The visit concluded with tours of additional historical and cultural sites in Ankara before the group returned to İskeçe on April 17.
Organizers stated that the trip aimed to enhance students’ historical awareness, cultural understanding, and exposure to higher education opportunities.
