Vehicle registration fees: Final countdown for payment
Taking into account today’s Christmas holiday (December 25), vehicle owners have seven days remaining to settle their fees before the end of the year. Failure to do so will result in significant penalties, although the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has clarified that fines will be graded according to the length of the delay.
How to Pay Vehicle Registration Fees
Vehicle owners must first download the payment notice electronically from the AADE platform. Fees can then be paid using one of the following methods:
- ATM or APS, by scanning the QR code on the notice and following the on-screen instructions
- E-banking, using the RF payment code listed on the notice
- In person at a bank branch or Hellenic Post (ELTA), with a printed copy of the payment notice
Penalties for Late Payment
For those who fail to pay on time, automatic surcharges will apply from January 1, 2026, as follows:
- 25% surcharge if paid during January
- 50% surcharge if paid during February
- 100% surcharge if paid from March onwards
Meanwhile, owners who do not intend to use their vehicle in 2026 may place it under electronic immobilization through the myCar platform. From April 2026, the option to pay registration fees on a monthly basis will be reinstated for those seeking temporary lifting of immobilization.
Exemptions
Certain categories are exempt from vehicle registration fees, particularly vehicles belonging to public-benefit institutions and civil society organizations that serve social and humanitarian purposes. These include, among others, ambulances, mobile medical units, blood donation units, and mobile classrooms.
Authorities urge vehicle owners to act promptly to avoid unnecessary penalties as the year-end deadline approaches.
