SYRIZA-PS raises concerns in Parliament – Irfan Hatzi-Gene notes that "the only way to cross from one side of the road to the other is through a stormwater drainage structure."

The completion of the new vertical road axis of the Egnatia Highway, connecting Dimario with Rudozem in Bulgaria, is scheduled in the coming days. However, it has sparked strong reactions from local farmers and livestock breeders.

The 7.5-kilometer road, part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), has cut off access to agricultural fields and livestock facilities, threatening the livelihoods of local producers. While the road is expected to improve connectivity with Bulgaria and boost trade activity in the region, farmers and breeders have voiced serious concerns.

Irfan Hatzi-Gene, Deputy Regional Governor for Transport and Communications, acknowledges the importance of protecting wildlife, including the construction of bear crossings. However, he criticizes the lack of equal consideration for human needs. He states, "The only way for people to cross from one side of the road to the other is through a stormwater drainage structure, which poses serious public safety risks."

The responsible minister is now being questioned about what specific measures will be taken to ensure safe crossings along the new Dimario-Rudozem road section, so that farmers and livestock breeders in the region do not face serious access issues to their properties and businesses.
