Pet welfare inspections to begin in Gümülcine
The Municipality of Gümülcine, in cooperation with the Gümülcine Police Department, will soon begin joint inspections under Law 4830/2021, which regulates the welfare of domestic animals.
During a coordination meeting held on October 21, attended by municipal and police officials, the scope and procedures of the inspections were defined in accordance with the Animal Welfare Law (4830/2021).
Participants included Deputy Mayor Kimon Lehoudis, Director of the Cleaning and Recycling Department Nikos Stergiadis, Stray Animal Collection Officer Theofilos Panotas, and representatives of the Gümülcine Police Department.
The inspections — to be carried out both in the city center and surrounding villages — will focus on checking whether pets are microchipped, vaccinated, and neutered. Mixed teams consisting of a municipal veterinarian, cleaning department staff, and police officers will conduct the checks.
In addition to inspections, the municipality plans to launch awareness campaigns, educational programs in schools, and public information seminars aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership.
The Municipality of Gümülcine has urged residents to comply with legal requirements and to take proper care of their pets in line with animal welfare standards.
