According to the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Komotini, Mr. Kimon Lechoudis, the work on the shell of the building is almost complete, while these days the parquet is being replaced, which when completed will be able to host games again.

It should be remembered that the energy upgrade project began in the summer of 2023, with the municipality hoping that it can be completed to make the indoor arena operational, at least for the games, by the beginning of the season.

This was not possible, however, and the gym remained closed throughout the previous season. It should be recalled that the project has involved the installation of thermal insulation over the entire external surface of the masonry, inverted thermal insulation on all concrete flat slabs and the replacement of an existing sheet metal roof in the main hall, above the competition area, with a new roof, made of aluminium thermal insulation panels.

At the same time, the aluminium frames were replaced and solar panels were installed. Although the gym will now begin operation, it will now operate somewhat differently than in previous years, with training sessions for the children's and teenage sections continuing to take place in the school gyms.

According to Lechoudis, only adult workouts will be held indoors, with provision made in the school gyms for the children's and teenage divisions.

In fact, as he said, the possibility is being explored and the possibility of the games of these departments to take place in the indoor gym of the 2nd Lyceum Komotini with the games of adult teams to be held in the indoor gym.
