Near-drowning in Dedeğaç: Swimming coaches save woman

Panic broke out yesterday (Saturday, August 30) at Agia Paraskevi beach in Dedeağaç when a foreign woman, approximately 55 years old, was swept offshore by waves and came close to drowning.

Her cries for help were heard by swimming coaches from the Nautical Sports Club of Dedeağaç (NOA), who were in the sea with their families at the time. Reacting within seconds, the two coaches swam to her aid, reaching her swiftly and bringing her safely back to shore with professionalism and composure.

On land, the woman was in shock but found to be in good health. A lifeguard from a nearby watchtower also arrived quickly, confirming that she was no longer in danger.

The incident comes just days after the body of a 74-year-old woman was recovered from the same beach, highlighting how the coaches’ timely intervention averted another tragedy.
