Elderly man dies after falling into well

An elderly died on Saturday after falling into a well in the Palagia settlement near Dedeağaç (Alexandroupoli).
Firefighters launch rescue operation
According to ERT the incident was reported around midday, prompting a major response from the Fire Service. Ten firefighters with four vehicles from the Alexandroupoli Fire Service and the 4th Special Firefighting Unit (EMAK) took part in the operation.
Firefighters located the 77-year-old man inside the well, unconscious, and managed to recover him using a stretcher and ropes.
Investigation underway
The man was handed over to an EKAV ambulance crew following the rescue operation, which was completed in the afternoon.
The exact circumstances and cause of the incident remain under investigation.
