Nabi İbrahimcik joins FUEN working visit to Berlin

Nabi İbrahimcik, Vice President of both the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) and the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN), took part in FUEN’s working visit to Berlin on 17–18 September.
The FUEN delegation consisted of Vice Presidents Olivia Schubert, Bernard Gaida, and Nabi İbrahimcik, along with Secretary General Eva Penzes. During the two-day program, the delegation held meetings with several members of the German Bundestag, including Klaus-Peter Willsch (CDU/CSU), Kathrin Michel (SPD), Christoph de Vries (CDU/CSU), Knut Abraham (CDU/CSU), and Stefan Seidler (SSW). They also met with Maylis Roßberg, President of the European Free Alliance Youth (EFAY).
The discussions covered FUEN’s ongoing initiatives, the current situation of European minorities, EU minority policy, the Minority SafePack Initiative (MSPI), issues related to geoblocking in online content, funding for FUEN projects, and opportunities for closer cooperation between FUEN and the Bundestag.
Speaking within the framework of European minority issues, Nabi İbrahimcik briefed German lawmakers on the Western Thrace Turkish community’s challenges, particularly cases of discrimination and rights violations. He emphasized that Greece continues to deny the Turkish ethnic identity of the minority, prohibits associations with “Turkish” in their names, and frequently portrays the community as a “threat” in both politics and mainstream media.
Ibrahimcik further highlighted educational restrictions, noting that Greek authorities have been shutting down autonomous and private Turkish primary schools in Western Thrace under the pretext of low enrollment, in violation of the community’s educational autonomy rights.
