Mufti of Xanthi, Mustafa Trampa, has condemned a magazine for publishing a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad, calling the act a “disrespectful attack disguised as freedom of press and expression.”

In a statement shared via his social media account, Mufti Trampa expressed that the cartoon deeply hurt Muslims around the world, including the Muslim Turkish community in Western Thrace.

His statement read:

“Such cartoons targeting Prophet Muhammad, who has guided humanity with the light of the Qur’an for over 14 centuries, and Prophet Moses, to whom the Torah was revealed, have deeply wounded not only all Muslims but also the Muslim Turkish community of Western Thrace. This is a disrespect carried out under the mask of press and expression freedom.”

The statement emphasized that the publication constitutes a blatant insult to religious beliefs and concluded with a strong denunciation:

“Therefore, we strongly condemn and curse the magazine responsible for this disrespect.”

The response comes amid renewed debates in Europe over freedom of expression and religious sensitivity, especially following repeated controversies involving depictions of Islamic religious figures.
