MP Özgür Ferhat calls for stronger labor rights and workplace safety reforms
Speaking in the plenary session on the draft bill introduced by the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance titled “Social Agreement for the Strengthening of National Collective Labor Agreements,” Ferhat argued that the proposed legislation fails to address the real and pressing needs of employees.
“A National Social Agreement Must Improve Living Conditions”
Ferhat stressed that for any framework to be described as a “national social agreement,” it must introduce tangible reforms that enhance workers’ living conditions.
He underlined that genuine collective bargaining cannot exist in an environment where there is a structural imbalance of power between employers and employees.
According to the Rodopi lawmaker:
- Youth unemployment remains at high levels.
- A significant portion of the productive-age population continues to leave the country.
- Workplace accidents are increasing at an alarming rate.
Cost of Living Pressures
Ferhat emphasized that workers are struggling daily with stagnant wages, rising utility bills, and increasing living costs.
“Employees are confronting their salaries, their bills, and the rising cost of living. A true social consensus is only possible through improvements in wages, workplace safety, and working conditions,” he stated.
The Rodopi MP reaffirmed his commitment to defending labor rights, pledging to closely monitor the legislative process and push for meaningful reforms that will improve both living and working standards across the country.
The debate comes amid broader national discussions over collective labor agreements, economic recovery, and social cohesion.
