Mayor Caner Imam seeks solutions for livestock farmers’ problems in Yassıköy
On April 10, 2025, Yassıköy Mayor Caner Imam visited the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Administration to discuss pressing issues faced by small-scale livestock breeders in his municipality. Accompanied by a delegation of local farmers, Mayor Imam met with Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis to seek solutions, particularly regarding livestock diseases.
The meeting, held at the governor’s office, was also attended by Ridvan Molla Isa, Deputy Regional Governor for Digital Transformation and E-Governance. The central topic of discussion was the restrictions imposed on lamb transport before Easter, which have caused considerable difficulties for sheep farmers in the region.
Governor Topsidis emphasized that he had already addressed the matter in a letter to the Minister of Agricultural Development on April 9. In the letter, he called for the immediate lifting of transport restrictions in areas free from active animal disease outbreaks, provided that biosecurity measures are observed.
To date, a total of €12,290,847 in compensation has been paid to 359 affected livestock farmers in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The regional administration reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the needs of the primary sector and supporting local farmers through ongoing challenges.
