19 arrested in drug-related cases across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
The arrests were made in areas including Dedeağaç (Alexandroupoli), Gümülcine (Komotini), İskeçe (Xanthi), Drama, Kavala and Thasos. Police said 12 separate case files were opened over alleged violations of Greece’s legislation on controlled substances.
The most significant cases involved cannabis seizures in Dedeağaç, Gümülcine and Drama.
TWO ARRESTED DURING SUSPECTED DRUG TRANSACTION IN DEDEAĞAÇ
On September 16, police officers in Dedeağaç arrested two people who were allegedly caught during a drug transaction.
Police said they seized 6.68 grams of raw cannabis and a mobile phone from one of the suspects, as well as cash from the other.
A subsequent search of the second suspect’s home and storage facility, assisted by the police drug-detection dog Laika, reportedly uncovered seven packages containing a total of 185.74 grams of raw cannabis, an electronic precision scale, three grinders and another mobile phone.
FOUR ARRESTED IN GÜMÜLCİNE
On September 18, four people were arrested in Gümülcine following what police described as the use of information concerning suspected drug trafficking in the city.
Searches of two homes, one of which police said was being used to conceal drugs, resulted in the seizure of 313.64 grams of raw cannabis, one cannabis cigarette, two metal grinders, an electronic precision scale, packages containing cannabis residue, cash and mobile phones.
THREE ARRESTED IN DRAMA CASE
In another case in Drama on September 18, two people were arrested after police allegedly found 396 grams of raw cannabis and 1.578 kilograms of cannabis plant material inside their vehicle.
A third person was arrested the following morning after police said the individual was jointly in possession of the seized drugs. The vehicle and two mobile phones were also confiscated.
ADDITIONAL ARRESTS IN İSKEÇE, GÜMÜLCİNE, KAVALA AND THASOS
Police reported nine additional cases involving smaller quantities of cannabis.
Five people were arrested in Gümülcine, while one woman was arrested in İskeçe after small quantities of raw cannabis were allegedly found in her possession. Another person was arrested in Drama, while three others were arrested in areas of Thasos and Kavala.
Police said small quantities of raw cannabis, two cannabis cigarettes and an electronic precision scale were seized in these cases.
The case files have been submitted to the relevant prosecutors, while preliminary investigations are being conducted by the relevant police departments across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
The arrests and allegations described by police remain subject to the judicial process.
