Komotini nominated for 2025 European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award

The Municipality of Komotini has officially been shortlisted for the 2025 European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award, following its formal application to the European Commission.
In a statement released by the municipality, local officials emphasized the importance of the nomination:
“Our candidacy is a recognition of our commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable social environment where every citizen feels a sense of belonging and has the opportunity to thrive. This award represents the result of a systematic and methodical effort carried out by the entire city,” the statement read.
This prestigious award is presented by the European Commission to municipalities, cities, and regions that demonstrate leadership in promoting diversity and inclusion, and that actively contribute to the development of more cohesive and equal societies.
Competing with Europe’s Leading Cities
Komotini will compete in the final round alongside major European cities such as Paris, Braga, Kraków, Salzburg, Utrecht, and Zaragoza.
The winners of the 2025 award will be announced during a special ceremony in Brussels on Tuesday, April 29. The event will be broadcast live online for public viewing.
The nomination marks a significant milestone for Komotini, a city with a rich multicultural heritage and a strong track record in fostering social cohesion and minority inclusion within the broader European context.
