Gümülcine mufti office book club explores poet Abdurrahim Karakoç
A youth book club organized by the Elected Mufti Office of Gümülcine brought together middle and high school students to explore the literary works, ideas and poetry of renowned Turkish poet Abdurrahim Karakoç.
The Book Club operating under the Youth Coordination Office of the Elected Mufti Office of Gümülcine held another gathering as part of its activities aimed at supporting the cultural, literary and social development of young people.
The latest meeting took place on Aug. 14 in a natural setting and brought together female middle and high school students who are members of the club. The participants examined the works and literary legacy of Abdurrahim Karakoç, one of the notable figures of modern Turkish literature who died in 2012.
The program was moderated by mentors from the Youth Coordination Office, with students discussing Karakoç's literary approach, intellectual world and the themes reflected in his poetry.
Held in a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by greenery, the gathering encouraged participants to exchange their views on the meanings and messages conveyed through Karakoç's works.
As part of the literary discussion, the students also examined poems from Karakoç's work Akıl Karaya Vurdu, written using the traditional Turkish syllabic meter. The poems were discussed individually, allowing the participants to explore their literary and thematic dimensions.
Following the book analysis, the young participants selected poems that had particularly affected them or expressed their own feelings and recited them for their peers, turning the gathering into an opportunity to share both literary appreciation and personal reflections.
The Youth Coordination Office said its Book Club activities would continue in the coming period, with the aim of encouraging young people's reading habits and introducing them to prominent figures and works from Turkish literature.
