The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is preparing to install a new architectural lighting system on the Kompsatos Bridge, aiming to give the recently completed infrastructure a distinctive nighttime identity and turn it into a landmark for the wider area.

The Regional Council approved a budget allocation of €237,559.20 for the project during its meeting on Aug. 10.

The planned lighting system will use energy-efficient LED technology to illuminate and highlight key architectural and structural elements of the bridge while avoiding visual disturbance for drivers.

Architectural lighting to highlight bridge structure
According to the project design, the lighting will emphasize the vertical elements of the bridge's side barriers, its pylons and supporting columns, the internal longitudinal recesses of the structure and the barriers running along the bridge deck.

The main lighting composition will use white light, while selected sections will feature dynamic RGB lighting.

The RGB system will allow the colors to be adapted for national anniversaries, local celebrations, cultural events and other major occasions, giving the bridge the ability to reflect different events throughout the year.

'A recognizable landmark for the region'
Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis said during the bridge's inauguration that the lighting design was intended to combine modern aesthetics, energy efficiency and respect for road safety.

"With this intervention, the bridge will not function only as modern and safe infrastructure. It will acquire its own nighttime identity and become a recognizable landmark, a modern point of reference and outward-looking symbol for the Municipality of Yassıköy, Rodop and our entire region," Topsidis said.

The project is expected to enhance the visual character of the Kompsatos Bridge after dark while creating a distinctive architectural feature for the Municipality of Yassıköy and the wider Rodop area.
