Greek Education Minister Zaharaki visits İskeçe Minority High School: School Board denied entry
On the first day of the new school year (Thursday, September 11), Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports Sofia Zaharaki visited the İskeçe Minority Middle and High School. However, during the visit, members of the school’s Board of Trustees were not allowed to enter the building.
The Board and Parent Association representatives were left waiting outside, where they briefly conveyed their demands to the minister at the school gate.
Board President Ozan Ahmetoğlu presented a written statement to Minister Zaharaki, expressing gratitude for the support provided in renovation and improvement works. Yet, he stressed that the community’s main demand remains the construction of a new school building.
“We believe that with the necessary political will and goodwill, the existing problems can be resolved,” Ahmetoğlu said.
He also voiced disappointment over being barred from entering the school alongside the minister:
“We would have wished to accompany you inside, but since permission was not granted, we could not do so,” he remarked.
The brief exchange at the school gate was also attended by several parents, who shared their concerns directly with the minister.
