According to information obtained from local authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in Karacaoglan, a village administratively linked to the Kozlukebir Municipality. The victim, an elderly Greek national, received a phone call from unidentified individuals who falsely claimed that his son had suffered a broken leg and required urgent surgery.

The scammers told the man that the operation was critical and demanded €8,000 to cover the alleged medical expenses. Fearing for his son’s health, the victim believed the story and later handed over the money in person to the suspects at a meeting point in the village.

It was only afterward that the man realized he had been deceived. He subsequently reported the incident to the Sirkeli Police Station, prompting an official investigation.

Authorities confirmed that an inquiry is currently underway to identify and locate those responsible. Police have also issued a warning urging citizens—particularly elderly individuals—to remain vigilant against similar scams and to immediately report suspicious phone calls to law enforcement.

Phone fraud cases involving fake medical emergencies have been increasingly reported across the region, with scammers often exploiting emotional distress to pressure victims into handing over large sums of money.
