Thousands attend Ramadan Iftar gathering in Karacaoğlan Village
The event took place on the evening of March 15 and brought together residents from Karacaoğlan and surrounding villages in Western Thrace, creating one of the largest Ramadan gatherings in the region.
Diplomats and Community Leaders Attend
Among the attendees were Aykut Ünal, Consul General of Turkey in Komotini, and his wife İlayda Ünal. Also present were İbrahim Şerif, Mufti of Gümülcine, Özgür Ferhat, Member of the Hellenic Parliament representing Rhodope, and Çiğdem Asafoğlu, leader of the Friendship Equality Peace Party.
Local officials, community representatives and Nusrettin Öztürk, a religious official affiliated with the Presidency of Religious Affairs, also attended the gathering along with many members of the Turkish Muslim community in the region.
Messages of Unity During Ramadan
Following the evening call to prayer, Mufti İbrahim Şerif led the iftar prayer before participants broke their fast together.
In the opening remarks, Mehmet Mehmet, head of the Karacaoğlan village trustee board, thanked the residents and contributors who helped organize the large-scale iftar event and wished that the holy month would bring blessings to the community.
Mufti Şerif emphasized that Ramadan represents not only fasting but also a time for strengthening social solidarity and communal bonds. He congratulated the residents of Karacaoğlan for their collective effort and dedication in organizing the event.
Consul General Invites Community to Eid Reception
Consul General Aykut Ünal began his speech by conveying greetings from Hakan Fidan, Foreign Minister of Turkey. He thanked the village community, the organizing committee and especially the youth who contributed to the preparation of the event.
Ünal also invited participants to attend the Eid al-Fitr reception that will be held at the Turkish Consulate in Komotini on the first day of the holiday.
The program concluded with the evening prayer and informal conversations over coffee among attendees.
