Türkiye condemns attack on Turkish Minority school in Western Thrace
Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned an attack targeting a Turkish Minority Primary School in Karacaoğlan village, located in the Rhodope regional unit of Western Thrace, Greece.
In a written statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Öncü Keçeli recalled that the Karacaoğlan Turkish Minority Primary School—situated in the Western Thrace region and closed by Greek authorities during the 2021–2022 academic year—was targeted by unidentified individuals. The statement stressed that the attack was unacceptable.
The ministry said it expects Greek authorities to fully clarify all aspects of the incident, regardless of who is responsible, to swiftly identify the perpetrators, and to take the necessary measures to prevent similar acts in the future.
The statement also expressed solidarity with the ethnic Turkish community living in Karacaoğlan, noting that their sorrow is shared. It further emphasized that Türkiye will continue to closely follow and defend the rights and interests of the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace, which are guaranteed under the Lausanne Peace Treaty.
