İskeçe (Xanthi) tax and accounting association launches campaign against phone scams
The Union of Tax and Accounting Professionals of Xanthi (EFEE Xanthis) has launched an awareness campaign to help protect citizens from telephone scams, highlighting common fraud scenarios and providing simple guidance on how to respond.
As part of the initiative, the association has created a special poster and information card outlining some of the most common methods used by phone scammers, along with basic steps citizens can take to protect themselves.
According to EFEE Xanthis, scammers often pose as representatives of banks or tax authorities, accountants, or even people from the potential victim’s close personal circle.
During these calls, fraudsters may ask victims to confirm account details, open links, install applications or immediately transfer money.
“HANG UP. I’LL CALL YOU”
EFEE Xanthis recommends a simple rule as a key protection measure: “Hang up. I’ll call you.”
The association advises citizens who receive a suspicious phone call to end the conversation immediately and then contact the bank, public service, accountant or person allegedly calling them themselves.
Citizens are urged to use only official contact numbers when making the return call, rather than any number provided by the caller.
The campaign aims to raise public awareness of common telephone fraud techniques and encourage citizens to take a cautious approach whenever a caller requests sensitive information, access to accounts or an immediate financial transaction.
