Education and infrastructure discussed at Dedeağaç meeting
Education infrastructure, student support programs and the future role of the Democritus University of Thrace were among the key topics discussed during a meeting between Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis and Greek Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Minister Sofia Zacharaki in Alexandroupoli.
The meeting focused on education-related projects being implemented through the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Program 2021–2027, including initiatives aimed at supporting students with special educational needs and securing funding for the continuation of these programs in the coming years.
The two officials also discussed issues concerning the Democritus University of Thrace and efforts to further strengthen its role in the region.
In addition, they reviewed ongoing energy-efficiency upgrades at school facilities across the region, aimed at improving educational infrastructure and creating better learning conditions for students.
Topsidis also briefed the minister on youth-focused initiatives implemented by the regional administration, including the AMESOS program, through which 4,500 students across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace received training in first aid, CPR and the use of defibrillators.
The discussion also covered road safety awareness programs organized by the region’s Directorate General of Transport and Communications, which engage students through interactive educational activities.
