Eastern Macedonia and Thrace invites citizens to co-create the Region’s new tourism identity

Through its Tourism Live participation and dialogue platform, the Deputy Regional Authority for Tourism has launched a short public questionnaire, inviting residents, professionals, and local stakeholders to submit their ideas and perspectives.

A Tourism Identity Built on Diversity

According to the accompanying statement, each area of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace possesses its own distinct characteristics—landscapes, history, narratives, flavors, and traditions—which together form the region’s collective identity and serve as a meaningful basis for sustainable tourism growth.

Tourism in the region, the Authority notes, is rooted in the diversity of its destinations. For this reason, the new tourism identity currently being designed will focus on highlighting this diversity, promoting each area in a way that showcases its unique character and strengths.

“One Region – Many Destinations”

Within this framework, the Regional Authority clarifies that the tourism identity of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will not be shaped around a single, centralized narrative. Instead, it will emerge through the coherent promotion of its individual places, each carrying its own distinctive identity and storytelling power.

The goal is to create a unified tourism brand that functions as a composition of the local “DNA” of each destination, presenting the region as a whole while allowing each area to stand out as a destination of value within a shared framework.

“We are shaping together the identity of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace as a synthesis of the unique elements of each place’s DNA,” the Deputy Regional Authority for Tourism emphasizes.

“A place’s identity is not simply a logo or a visual symbol. It is what gives value to history, depth to narrative, and substance to differentiation. It is the foundation for promotion based not on spectacle, but on truth—one that makes locals proud and invites visitors to discover the place.”

Citizens at the Heart of the Process

The initiative underscores that place identity is formed through the lived experience and knowledge of its people. For this reason, the Regional Authority invites contributions from:

  • Tourism professionals
  • Cultural and institutional stakeholders
  • Creators and entrepreneurs
  • Local residents who know their area best

The questionnaire aims to capture, in a simple and focused way:

  • The core characteristics of each area
  • What makes each place unique
  • How it should be represented within the new regional tourism identity

Participation is simple and direct through the online questionnaire available via the Tourism Live platform.
