The Region of East Macedonia and Thrace has begun preparations for its international tourism promotion campaign for the 2027 season, stepping up efforts to expand the destination’s presence in foreign markets.

The Region’s Tourism Department, led by Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism Panagiotis Archontis, recently returned from IFTM Top Resa 2026 in Paris, where it participated from September 15 to 17.

At the international tourism exhibition, East Macedonia and Thrace was promoted as a unified, multi-themed destination, with the regional delegation holding a series of business-to-business meetings with foreign tourism organizations and travel agents.

Focus on international markets
According to the Region, the meetings focused on both renewing existing partnerships and establishing new contacts aimed at attracting international visitors and incorporating East Macedonia and Thrace into new tourism networks and travel programmes.

The Paris exhibition forms part of a broader international outreach campaign that the Region says has been underway for the past two and a half years. Regional officials said the initiative has produced results, distinctions and awards, while also contributing to the region’s improved position among Greece’s regions in tourism-related studies by the Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE).

The Region did not provide specific figures in its announcement detailing the number of new contracts or the additional visitor flows directly attributable to the campaign.

Exploring promotion opportunities in France
During the Paris visit, the regional tourism team also held discussions with representatives of the Greek community in France, including internationally known photographer and television presenter Nikos Aliagas.

The talks with Aliagas focused on potential cooperation to promote East Macedonia and Thrace in the French market. The delegation also met representatives of the travel magazine Wanderlust to explore further opportunities for international tourism promotion.
