The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has begun a new phase of its international tourism promotion strategy, holding business-to-business meetings in Amsterdam to attract visitors from new markets and strengthen air connectivity through Kavala and Alexandroupoli airports.

The regional tourism delegation, led by Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism Panagiotis Archontis, participated in targeted meetings with representatives of travel agencies, tour operators and airlines on October 8 in the Dutch capital.

Around 40 tourism and aviation industry representatives attended the event, according to a report by Paratiritis News. Discussions focused on promoting Eastern Macedonia and Thrace as an integrated tourism destination, developing international partnerships and expanding the region’s reach in overseas markets.

AIR CONNECTIVITY A KEY PRIORITY
Strengthening air links through Kavala and Alexandroupoli airports was a central theme of the meetings. The regional authorities see improved connectivity as an important factor in attracting visitors from new markets and extending the tourism season.

The initiative forms part of the region’s wider tourism outreach strategy, which combines international networking, targeted business partnerships and destination promotion to support local economic development.

TOURISM CAMPAIGN FOR 2027 UNDER WAY
Archontis said the Amsterdam meetings marked the beginning of a broader programme of international promotion ahead of the 2027 tourism campaign.

“We are starting the 2027 tourism outreach campaign with the best prospects,” he said, adding that the region aims to open up new markets, strengthen existing partnerships and provide practical support for improved air connectivity.

He also announced plans for further overseas promotional activities, including additional B2B meetings and participation in international tourism exhibitions.

“A busy programme of targeted B2B activities and participation in international tourism fairs lies ahead,” Archontis said. He added that the region would continue highlighting its distinctive attractions and tourism potential to strengthen its international presence.

FOCUS ON INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS
The Amsterdam initiative reflects the regional authorities’ strategy of building long-term relationships with tourism businesses and aviation stakeholders. By promoting the region internationally and improving access through its two airports, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace aims to create new opportunities for tourism growth and the wider local economy.
