Call for concrete action on new building for İskeçe Minority Middle & High School
The Greek government has yet to take concrete steps toward resolving the long-standing building issue of the İskeçe Minority Middle and High School, according to a new joint statement by the School Committee and the Parent-Teacher Association.
Despite numerous efforts over the years, no tangible results have been achieved. The Committee and the Association have now submitted a new official letter to the Ministry of Education, Building Infrastructure S.A. (Ktirikes Ypodomes A.E.), İskeçe Municipality, and other relevant authorities, calling for immediate action to provide the school with a modern building that meets current educational needs.
In the letter, signed by Committee President Ozan Ahmetoğlu and Parent-Teacher Association President Cemalettin Efendi, the school authorities emphasize that all previous initiatives have failed to yield a written response from the relevant institutions, including:
President Katerina Sakellaropoulou
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis
The Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports
Building Infrastructure S.A.
The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
The Committee points out that different state institutions have provided contradictory information. For example, while the Ministry of Education informed MP Hüseyin Zeybek that no formal request for a new building had been submitted to Building Infrastructure S.A., the school had in fact done so — yet received no response, despite multiple phone communications with the company.
The letter also criticizes the Ministry for giving inconsistent answers — one version to MPs and another to the school’s own written inquiries.
The message stresses the seriousness of the issue:
“We regret to state that in such an important matter — one that directly affects our children and the quality of minority education — our concerns are not being taken seriously. We expect every responsible authority to fulfill their duty and help resolve this long-standing problem. The neglect shown over the years has deeply affected not only the local community but also our students, teachers, and parents.”
The Committee and Parent-Teacher Association have called for an urgent clarification of the procedures required to proceed with the project and have once again urged the authorities to take concrete steps toward constructing the long-awaited new school building.
Copies of the letter were sent to:

Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christodoulos Topsidis
Acting Regional Director of Education, Marigoula Kosmidou
