Attack on Turkish Minority School in Western Thrace sparks strong reaction from FEP Party
The vandalization of the Turkish Minority Primary School in the village of Karacaoğlan, located in the Rhodope (Rhodope) regional unit of Western Thrace, has drawn strong condemnation from the Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party.
In seeing the attack as an extension of ongoing pressure against the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace, the FEP Party sharply criticized the incident, whose perpetrators remain unidentified. In a written statement, the party stressed that the assault reflects long-standing violations of the minority’s educational rights.
The statement recalled that for many years the educational rights of the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace have been systematically undermined, noting that numerous minority schools have been unlawfully shut down. Against this backdrop, the damage inflicted on a Turkish minority school building was described as entirely unacceptable.
The FEP Party further emphasized that even if such schools have been closed, the fact that these buildings belong to the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace cannot be disputed. It underlined that any attempt to ignore or erase these rights would not be tolerated.
Concluding its statement, the FEP Party called on the authorities to swiftly identify those responsible for the attack on the Karacaoğlan Turkish Minority Primary School, bring the perpetrators to justice, and ensure effective security for institutions belonging to the minority community.
