Vandi: "I would never sing in front of the photo of the murderer of the Greeks"

Greece's famous singer Despina Vandi cancelled her concert in Izmir Çeşme yesterday by not taking the stage on the grounds that a poster of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was hanging. Vandi's anti-Atatürk attitude caused reactions in Türkiye.

The Greek press, on the other hand, carried Vandi's words "I will never sing in front of the murderer of the Greeks", which she touted as a hero, to the headlines. It was stated that Vandi did not go on stage because she saw Atatürk as the murderer of the Greeks. According to the news in News247.gr, the famous Greek singer Despina Vandi made her first statements through her representatives after her decision to cancel her concert planned in Türkiye on Wednesday evening (17/07).

Despina Vandi announced the cancellation of her concert on her Instagram account. Vandi stated that she took this decision by stating that she was uncomfortable with the political meaning attached to the event. According to the details, the Turkish Education Foundation (TEV), which organised Despina Vandi's concert, placed a giant Mustafa Kemal Atatürk poster on the stage in the event area. Vandi demanded that the poster be taken down, but faced the reaction of Izmir Mayor Lal Denizli.

Despina Vandi's Statements in Greek Media:

Despina Vandi, the murderer of Ataturk's Greeks, told Open TV on Thursday (18/07), "I would never sing in front of a photo of the murderer of Greeks. I asked for the photo to be removed and instead the Greek flag to be flown side by side with the Turkish flag."

Today (19/07), Vandi told the MEGA channel, "It would be an insult to historical memory for any Greek artist to perform in front of a giant (Atatürk) poster. Especially on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish attack on Cyprus, this is an even more sensitive issue."

Who is really acting politically?

Although Vandi claims in his statements that he refused to perform on the stage in Çeşme on the grounds that TEV gave him a political meaning, his hostile attitude towards Atatürk is actually an indication of how hostile and politically motivated he is.
