Taxi drivers announce nationwide 48-hour strike on December 2–3
Taxi drivers will hold a nationwide 48-hour strike on Tuesday, December 2, and Wednesday, December 3, the Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Drivers (POEITA) announced on Monday.
The federation cited long-standing unresolved issues affecting the daily operations and financial sustainability of taxi drivers. “The taxi sector has reached its limits,” POEITA said, noting that repeated attempts at dialogue with relevant ministries, especially the Ministry of Transport, have failed to produce solutions.
During a board meeting on Monday, November 24, POEITA decided unanimously to launch the strike and begin preparations for a Sector Council meeting to determine further actions and potential extended mobilizations.
Key demands outlined by the federation include:
Extension of the electric vehicle mandate to 2035.
Measures against unfair competition from multinational ride-hailing apps.
Immediate action against service poaching by private vehicles (E.I.X.).
Increased base fares and minimum charges nationwide.
Renegotiation for loaded taxis’ access to special lanes.
Implementation of all pending provisions of the sectoral legislative bill.
Fare adjustments and fair taxation.
POEITA also confirmed that talks with the Ministry of Transport are expected, involving the federation leadership and party representatives. The federation warned that if no satisfactory response is received, the sector will take further unified and forceful action.
