SYRIZA, New Left and PASOK issue joint request for briefing on COP30
Three opposition parties submitted a joint request on Thursday seeking an urgent parliamentary briefing on the recent United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), held this month in Belém, Brazil.
PASOK, SYRIZA, and New Left called for a joint session of three key parliamentary committees—the Standing Committee on Production and Trade, chaired by Fotini Arabatzi; the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Athanasios Kavvadas; and the Special Permanent Committee on Environmental Protection, headed by Dionysia Avgerinopoulou.
In their request, the parties urged committee chairs to summon the relevant ministers to present a full update on Greece’s positions and the broader outcomes of COP30, describing the matter as “a serious issue” requiring immediate scrutiny. They also proposed inviting representatives from environmental organizations and local government bodies to contribute to the discussion.
The briefing, they argued, is essential for ensuring parliamentary oversight and informing national policy as global climate negotiations advance.
