SYRIZA might soon lose 3 more MPs
SYRIZA could soon lose its position as the main opposition party, as reports suggest that three more MPs are considering leaving. If this happens, PASOK could become the main opposition party in the Greek parliament.
According to Kathimerini, Theodora Tzakri has already announced her intention to leave, without saying though when this will happen. Another lawmaker Giota Poulou told local media on Wednesday that her departure “is a matter of hours.”
“I had said that I will not deprive the party of its role as main opposition. On the other hand, I also cannot accept what had happened at the congress.”
Possibly admiral Evangelos Apostolakis may also follow.
If these reports are confirmed, SYRIZA will be left with 28 MPs, and PASOK, with 31, will take over as the main opposition party.
This would mark the first time in modern Greek political history that the main opposition party changes place without elections preceding.
