Sahara dust plume to affect Greece from Friday, AtmoHub says

A new wave of dust from the Sahara is expected on Friday, according to AtmoHub, the information hub for atmospheric composition in Greece. The dust will gradually affect western Greece from Friday. The areas expected to be most affected on Friday are the Ionian Islands, the Peloponnese, Epirus, Western Greece and Crete.

On Saturday, the dust haze will spread further east, affecting Central Greece and Thessaly and, to a lesser extent, the islands of the northern Aegean. PM10 concentrations are expected to range between 50-100 μg/m³ in several areas, exceeding local air quality limits, according to AtmoHub.

At the same time, muddy rain is expected, initially light on Thursday, while from early Friday morning conditions will intensify in western Greece, primarily affecting the Ionian Islands, the Peloponnese, Epirus and western Greece. From Friday afternoon, muddy rain is expected to spread to northern Greece as well, mainly Macedonia and Thrace.
