Record cocaine seizure in Mykonos – Four Police officers among those arrested
Greek authorities have carried out a major crackdown on a drug trafficking ring in Mykonos, seizing what officials describe as the largest quantity of cocaine ever confiscated on the island. The operation led to the arrest of eight individuals, including four police officers.
Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis hailed the outcome as a “major double success,” underscoring both the scale of the drug bust and the uncovering of corruption within the police ranks. In a statement posted to social media, he emphasized the critical role of the Hellenic Police's Internal Affairs Division.
“The message is clear: the more citizens trust the Internal Affairs Division, the more it will deliver,” Chrysochoidis said.
The coordinated operation, conducted by the Internal Affairs Division, is part of a broader investigation into police corruption. Among those arrested is a non-commissioned officer who had already been suspended in connection with a separate case. Authorities believe he played a central role in the drug network, organizing purchases and distribution with the help of active-duty officers based in Mykonos and Athens.
According to police sources, the group’s activities included financing and managing drug operations across the region.
The investigation is ongoing as officials work to dismantle the remaining elements of the network and determine the full extent of its activities.
