Rainfall and temperature records of 2025

The highest and lowest rainfall and temperature values recorded in 2025, along with other notable meteorological data, were released by meteo.gr, based on measurements from the network of automatic weather stations operated by the National Observatory of Athens.

Temperature and Rainfall Extremes

According to the data:

  • 45.8°C was the highest temperature of the year, recorded in Skala, Messinia, on July 25, 2025.
  • –11.8°C was the lowest temperature recorded outside ski resorts and sinkholes, measured in Ochyro, Nevrokopi, on February 22, 2025.
  • –16.3°C was the lowest temperature recorded at the Kaimaktsalan Ski Center on December 31, 2025.
  • 326 millimeters marked the highest daily rainfall of the year, recorded on November 21 at Katarraktis, Arta.
  • 2,202 millimeters was the highest annual rainfall total, measured in Petalia, Corfu.
  • Meteo.gr also noted that the summer of 2025 was the third hottest on record in Greece.

Maps published by the platform illustrate the 10 highest maximum temperatures and 10 lowest minimum temperatures (excluding ski resorts and sinkholes), as well as the 10 highest and lowest annual rainfall totals across the country.

Monthly Climate Overview
Beyond the annual records, each month of 2025 displayed distinct climatic characteristics:

  • January was very warm, with positive temperature deviations across all regions.
  • February was cold, marked by significant negative temperature deviations nationwide.
  • March was warm, with temperatures above seasonal averages; exceptionally high temperatures were recorded during the second ten-day period.
  • April was cold, with below-average temperatures in all regions.
  • May saw near-normal temperatures, though a major African dust transport episode affected southern mainland Greece and Crete on May 17.
  • June was very warm, with strong positive deviations nationwide, and an unusually high number of days with strong meltemi winds in the Aegean (24 out of 30 days).
  • July was extremely warm, with very strong positive deviations; prolonged heat affected the country from July 14 to 28, except for July 18–19.
  • August recorded temperatures close to seasonal norms, while strong meltemi winds prevailed in the Aegean on 21 of 31 days.
  • September was slightly warmer than average in most regions.
  • October was cold, with negative temperature deviations nationwide.
  • November was warm, with heavy rainfall primarily in western and northwestern Greece.
  • December was slightly warmer than average, with significant rainfall mainly in eastern and southern Greece.
The findings highlight the growing climatic variability and extremes observed across Greece throughout 2025.
