Two men believed to be migrants were found dead overnight near Dimetoka (Didymoteicho) in Greece’s northeastern Meriç (Evros) region, close to the border with Turkiye.
Two men believed to be migrants were found dead overnight near Dimetoka (Didymoteicho) in Greece’s northeastern Meriç (Evros) region, close to the border with Turkiye.
According to state broadcaster ERT, the men, estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, were discovered near the swollen Meriç (Evros) River following heavy rainfall.
They were taken to hospital early Sunday, where they were pronounced dead.
Police have launched an investigation and ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The river in the area is around six meters deep, and temperatures remain very low this time of year.
