Greece will experience unsettled weather this week, with rain, thunderstorms, and falling temperatures affecting much of the country, according to meteorologists.

On Monday, February 9, rain will begin in western and northern Greece and gradually spread to other regions, accompanied by thunderstorms. Snow is expected in mountainous areas, with temporary snow in semi-mountainous parts of Thrace late at night. Morning visibility may be locally reduced, and dust from North Africa could affect western and southern areas.

In northeastern Greece, winds will blow from the east at 4–5 Beaufort, strengthening to 6–7 Beaufort by the afternoon. Elsewhere, winds from the south will reach 3–5 Beaufort. Temperatures are expected to drop, ranging from 12–14°C in the north, 15–17°C elsewhere, and 18–19°C in southern islands.

Regional forecasts for Monday:

Attica: Partly cloudy, with rain and a brief thunderstorm expected late afternoon. Winds variable at 3–4 Beaufort. Temperatures 10–17°C.

Thessaloniki: Cloudy, with rain gradually spreading and thunderstorms along coastal areas, locally heavy from midday. Winds variable 3–4 Beaufort, turning east-northeast 3–5 Beaufort by afternoon, strengthening to 6 Beaufort in eastern areas. Temperatures 7–13°C.

Macedonia & Thrace: Cloudy with rain, intensifying locally in central and eastern Macedonia by midday. Coastal thunderstorms expected. Snow in mountains and possibly semi-mountainous Thrace late at night. Winds 3–4 Beaufort, strengthening to 6–7 Beaufort in eastern areas. Temperatures 6–14°C, 3–4 degrees lower in western Macedonia.

Forecast for the rest of the week:

Tuesday, Feb. 10: Intermittent rain and isolated thunderstorms in the Ionian, eastern mainland, and Aegean. Snow mainly in central and northern mountains. Winds 3–5 Beaufort, north Aegean 6–7 Beaufort. Temperatures slightly lower, 12°C in the north, 14–16°C elsewhere, 17–18°C in southern islands.

Wednesday, Feb. 11: Increasing clouds with rain beginning in the west and south, spreading east by afternoon. Isolated storms, some possibly strong in western areas. Snow in central and northern mountains. Winds 3–5 Beaufort, increasing to 5–6 Beaufort at sea. Temperature stable.

Thursday, Feb. 12: Cloudy with rain and scattered thunderstorms, locally strong in eastern Aegean in the morning and western areas in the evening. Snow in central and northern mountains. Winds 3–5 Beaufort, strengthening to 6–7 Beaufort in southern and eastern seas. Temperatures rising slightly.

Friday, Feb. 13: Cloudy with local rain in western, southern, and eastern Aegean areas. Isolated thunderstorms, temporarily strong in the eastern Aegean early morning. Snow in central and northern mountains. Winds 4–5 Beaufort, central and southern regions 5–7 Beaufort. Temperatures remain stable.

Meteorologists warn that new weather systems from Wednesday onward could bring heavy rain to areas already affected earlier in the week, continuing through Thursday and Friday.
