Hundreds gathered in Athens to protest the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas' Political Bureau, who was killed in Tehran. The demonstration, organized by Palestinians living in Greece and the Left Anti-capitalist Front for Change (ANTARSIA), took place in Syntagma Square.

Protesters chanted slogans against Israel, condemning the assassination of the Hamas leader. Speeches at the rally highlighted the potential for increased conflict in the Middle East, attributing deliberate intent to Israel's actions.

Signs reading "Murderer Israel" were displayed, and the protest concluded without incident.

Assassination of Hamas Leader Haniyeh in Iran

Ismail Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran's new President, Masoud Pezeshkian. On the morning of July 31, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps reported an attack on Haniyeh's residence in Tehran. Both Iran and Hamas blamed Israel for the assassination, while Israeli officials declined to comment.

Haniyeh has led Hamas' Political Bureau since May 6, 2017, succeeding Khaled Meshaal.
