Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reflects on 6 years in office
PM Mitsotakis said he was still “determined” to honor the mandate the citizens had entrusted him with for “a stronger Greece”.
Marking six years since his New Democracy (ND) party won the 2019 general election, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reflected on his tenure in a video message, expressing both gratitude and renewed determination to continue delivering on his mandate.
“The hair may have turned gray, but I am more experienced—and certainly just as determined to honor the trust you have placed in me,” Mitsotakis said in a heartfelt social media post published on July 8.
The Prime Minister pledged to stay true to his government’s goal of creating a “stronger and fairer Greece,” emphasizing that despite global instability, his administration has delivered tangible progress over the past six years.
Key Achievements Highlighted
In his message, Mitsotakis outlined several accomplishments of his government, including:
The creation of 500,000 new jobs
Strengthening of Greece’s economy
Efforts to reverse brain drain by retaining and attracting talent
A clampdown on tax evasion and redistribution of tax revenue to support vulnerable citizens
Digital transformation of public services
Ongoing modernization of the armed forces
He acknowledged the challenges and crises that have marked his time in office—including the pandemic, natural disasters, and international tensions—but stressed his commitment to take responsibility and continue working for national progress.
“I draw strength from the moments when all Greeks felt proud—from the international recognition of the progress we have made. But I also remember the difficult times, the tragedies that brought us pain,” he said.
Steadfast Toward the Future
Mitsotakis, now one year into his second term following his 2023 re-election, reaffirmed his commitment to long-term reforms and better living standards for all citizens.
“This is the goal I will continue to serve with all my strength: a stronger Greece, a fairer Greece, a more modern Greece—and a better life for every Greek woman and man. And we will achieve it steadily, step by step,” he concluded.
With elections not expected again until 2027, Mitsotakis signaled he sees the coming years as a window to deepen structural reforms and deliver on outstanding promises, particularly around public health, education, and institutional transparency.
