Poll by GPO: New Democracy leads with 31.4%, PASOK in second place
War and Economy Dominate Public Concerns
The survey highlights growing public concern over the war in the Middle East, with respondents expressing strong opposition to military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran.
A majority of participants believe the conflict is driven primarily by economic interests in the region rather than efforts to prevent Iran’s nuclear development. Many also favor a neutral stance for Greece in the conflict.
Cost of Living Remains Top Issue
Domestically, rising prices remain the most pressing issue, cited by 48.7% of respondents as the country’s biggest problem.
The poll also indicates that the economic consequences of the war are the leading source of concern among citizens, reinforcing anxieties about inflation and energy costs.
Mixed Views on Government Performance
While the survey records a generally positive assessment of government measures, a significant 62% of respondents express a desire for a change in government.
Voting Intentions and Political Trends
In terms of voting intention:
- New Democracy: 26.1%
- PASOK: 11.4%
- Other parties show only minor fluctuations.
Support for a potential new political initiative by former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras remains largely stable, though the share of voters expressing a strong likelihood of support has declined—from 7.9% in February to 5.1%.
Similarly, declining “strong support” indicators were recorded for Maria Karystianou (from 8.1% to 6.4%) and former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras (from 1.6% to 1.2%), despite some increase in broader voter interest in Samaras’ potential political activity.
Shifting Political Landscape
The findings suggest a complex political landscape in Greece, where economic concerns and geopolitical tensions are shaping voter sentiment, while opposition forces continue to search for momentum.
