Poll: 7 in 10 Greeks oppose a third term for Mitsotakis

A new poll by MRB for OPEN TV delivers another blow to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the New Democracy government, signaling growing public demand for political change. According to the findings, a large majority of citizens believe the country is in a state of crisis rather than progress.

Key Findings

When asked whether Mitsotakis and New Democracy deserve a third term in government, only 12.3% responded “definitely yes,” and 14.1% said “probably yes.”

In contrast, a decisive 69.5% want a change in power — with 7.3% answering “probably yes” and 62.2% “definitely yes.”

Only 26.9% of respondents believe Greece is on a path of progress, while 70.4% perceive the country as moving toward crisis and uncertainty.

The main criterion for voting among respondents was a desire to “see results in their daily lives” (28%).

Support for Potential New Parties

If new political parties were formed by well-known figures, voters said they would be motivated mainly by tangible results, justice, and leadership trust:

Alexis Tsipras: 28% would vote for a hypothetical party led by him to “see results in their lives,” 19.9% for a sense of justice, and 17.7% for trust in his leadership.

Antonis Samaras: 33.1% would vote for results, 20.1% for justice, and 19% for leadership trust.

Maria Karystianou: 27.9% for results, 21% for trust in her, and 18.3% for progress in the country.

Evaluation of Alexis Tsipras

Respondents rated former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras as follows:

As Prime Minister: 55.2% rated him between 1–4, 18.3% between 5–6, and 24.1% positively (7–10).

As opposition leader: 57.3% rated him 1–4, 21.2% 5–6, and 18.6% positively (7–10).

What Citizens Expect from Tsipras

43.5% want him to “make personal self-criticism” regarding mistakes or omissions from his 2015–2019 term.

40.8% want him to “present concrete policy proposals” for governing and addressing national challenges.

9.8% want neither action, while 5.9% gave no answer.

The survey underscores widespread dissatisfaction with the government and a strong public appetite for change, with Tsipras remaining a divisive but relevant political figure in Greek public opinion.
