A couple was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday in Thessaloniki after police discovered their 11-month-old baby left unattended on a fourth-floor balcony overnight. Authorities were alerted when patrolling officers heard the child crying from the apartment.

The parents, aged 35 and 36, were asleep inside their home along with their three other children when police found the baby alone on the balcony. According to police statements, the couple claimed they left the infant outside “to cool off.”

They were taken into custody and brought before a prosecutor on Tuesday morning, facing charges of exposing a minor to danger.

The case has prompted an investigation by social services into the living conditions of all four children in the household. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any further protective measures will be taken.

The incident has sparked public concern over child welfare and parental neglect, particularly during summer months when temperatures can pose health risks to infants.

Police continue monitoring the situation as the investigation develops.
