Mitsotakis government sets 22 priorities ahead of 2027 elections
The Greek government, led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has identified 22 priority targets from a broader package of 90 projects and initiatives as it seeks to fulfil its election pledges ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The priorities focus on defence and public security, infrastructure, housing and social policy. The government aims to complete the selected projects before the elections and demonstrate tangible results for voters.
The targets were agreed at the latest cabinet meeting chaired by Mitsotakis. Implementation schedules and completion deadlines have been set for each project.
The government intends to highlight progress on commitments made during the 2023 election campaign and focus its campaign on public services and improvements that directly affect people's daily lives, rather than political debate alone.
DEFENCE AND SECURITY PROJECTS TOP THE AGENDA
Defence and public security feature prominently among the government's priorities.
Two FDI-class frigates are scheduled for delivery in December. The government also plans to modernise the emergency response system and upgrade infrastructure for smart policing.
On the island of Crete, two new centres for migrant reception and identification are expected to be completed by March 2027.
CRETE ROAD PROJECTS TO BE ACCELERATED
Infrastructure investment is another key part of the government's pre-election programme.
Under the Northern Road Axis of Crete (BOAK) project, the government aims to complete a 25-kilometre section. Work will also continue along a total 130-kilometre route to improve road safety.
The government also plans to complete consultations on the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for the 2028–2034 period by April 2027.
HOUSING TENDERS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN 2027
Housing initiatives are also included in the government's priority package.
The first tenders for the development of state-owned properties are expected to be launched in February 2027. A further round of tenders, covering the development of disused military camps for housing and other projects, is scheduled to begin in April.
QUALITY OF LIFE AT THE CENTRE OF ELECTION STRATEGY
The government aims to use the projects to deliver visible improvements in citizens' everyday lives.
Security, transport, housing, agriculture and public services are expected to feature prominently in the government's presentation of its record ahead of the 2027 elections.
Delivering the 22 priority targets is seen as a key part of Mitsotakis's effort to demonstrate that his government has fulfilled the commitments made during the 2023 election campaign.
