New traffic law: €2,000 fine and 7-year license suspension!

In Greece, a new Traffic Law (KOK) introduces severe penalties for drivers who commit serious violations. Drivers who frequently repeat the same traffic offenses may lose their driving licenses for a period of 2 to 7 years and face fines of up to €2,000.
The new regulation increases penalties for offenses such as driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeding speed limits, not wearing seat belts, using mobile phones while driving, and violating accessibility ramps for disabled individuals.
The draft law will remain open for public discussion until January 24, 2025, and will come into effect three months after its publication in the Official Gazette.
Authorities stated that a system will be implemented to monitor drivers' behavior to enhance road safety and prevent violations. According to this system, drivers who accumulate a certain number of penalty points will have their licenses revoked.
Penalties for repeated violations:
Second violation within 1 year: €1,000 fine and 180 days license suspension.
Second instance of driving under the influence within 1 year: €2,000 fine and 2 years license suspension.
Third violation within 5 years: 7 years license suspension and mandatory re-examination.
With these new regulations, the aim is to create a deterrent effect on drivers and improve traffic safety
